Know your audience is such a cliché when it comes to Creative Writing

Image
Know your audience is such a cliché writing advice . Perhaps its helpful when you are writing for a particular audience and you already know your crowd. For emerging writers, knowing what you are interested to write about is more important. Writing comes first, the audience comes next. At university, corporate writing and perhaps magazines' articles writing, knowing your audience is important, you write pretty to an established standards and interests. I differ on knowing my audience before the creative work is published. Not exactly knowing my audience before publishing on this blog is freeing to explore the writing and the ideas that comes out of this medium. Sometime the immediate audience or even audience in the same era are not interested in particular artist, or writer body of work. Caring too much about what's the audience currently wants might rob you of your best creativity. Be brave and write creatively, you might discover an eloquent, tweet, song , poem, non-fic...

On blogging & which blogs I'm reading

Some people maintained their blogs on regular weekly, monthly and yearly bases. My blog was in the forgotten and neglected land. I'm aware that some bloggers generate income form their blogs, my blog had started as a personal journey for writing discoveries. So the blog wasn't the goal of itself. It was a mean to an end. Moving forward, and after reading some exceptional, & inspiring blogs, I changed my mind on blogging. The blog by itself is an art, people use it in many different ways, to inform, entertain or for self discovery. So perhaps I can delve into some topics that I'm interested in, and write about them. I wasn't in the past consistent blogger, from now I try to find my rhythm by publishing on regular basis. I'm not sure yet, if it'll be weekly, but at least I should aim to publish monthly. I admit that the blogs I enjoy reading currently are personal finance blogs and its a big & huge thing, these kind of blogs attracts many comments by si...

I'm Back!

I'm Back! I've been watching how social media have replaced for some people their day job. Some successful career people have quit their traditional job and have pursued social media to gain income. Many people in their YouTube Channels or blogs or both actually gained income and not only survived but thrived for example PointlessBlog - YouTube and Zoella - YouTube . Some people pursued social media on full time bases and others as a slash to their normal job. I think I'm the latter type. I like my day job, but I also like to follow up on creative adventures in writing and ideas. This year it'll be good if I write more on a regular bases! I wasn't active on social media other than the occasional tweets or Facebook posts. But boy oh boy you learn so much from watching or reading certain people on YouTube and blogs. You get high buzzed with ideas and motivated to do things differently. I usually like to watch people daily vlogs (although not on a daily bases...

It's a miracle I'm back to blog

Yes, I want to mark the day I re discovered my blog. It was lost and neglected. Happy to find an old friend, happy to find my old self and see my new hopeful new self to reignite my passion for creative writing. I finished university a while back. But I wasn't consistent to continue and grow in my journey of creative writing. Today is closer to another new year, and hence my next year goals. To start from humble beginnings and go back to structured creative writing course. This time through dedicated writers center instead of studying elective creative writing subject through university. The first module I enrolled through the writers center is delivered online and I can mill over it for a year. I'm the kind of person who needs structures, routines and milestones. It seems that just reading about how to write novels books is not enough for me. That didn't prompt me to take huge actions. I want to see progress through my creative writing journey. Also doing creative w...

Why I’m watching My Kitchen Rules, and it isn’t for the cooking

I’m an average cook, and cooking is not one of my interests, but I watch My Kitchen Rules to see the human drama showing up in competition and against the clock. It is life; there are the friends and foes. And all the human emotions that flares up. It is not bad they serve up gourmet dishes and advice, and the dilemma of under cooking and over cooking. But what makes this show exciting, its changing locations and mini competitions that focus on smaller teams doing asides competitions against each others give them fancy and epic names such as the ‘Sudden Death’ at other times   “Cook off”.

1st Book Review: Girl Saves Boy by Steph Bowe (Fiction Novel)

I rarely read young adult fiction books but Steph Bowe changed my mind, her wisdom and knowledge is beyond her young life. She wrote Girl Saves Boy when she was in her high school. When I started reading her novel after I read the publisher blurb at the back of the book, I told myself how can she (the writer) solve or bring the reader to satisfying end when the tragedies are laid out at the book blurb and at the beginning of the book? But she did, and she did it well, it is not perfect but she managed to capture the fragile human spirit, that I thought you can only write about it if you have unhappy childhood and rugged life experience. The last two pages of her book are breathtaking and hers are one of my favorite ending of books I read previously, it captures teenagers’ spirit and sense of humour. Only read it when you got the plot from beginning to end to get its full effect. The basic plot of the book is: A teenager boy called Sacha, his Leukemia came back and hi...

When self help isn't enough?

I admit in my previous life I was and maybe still I am to less degree, self improvement, self help, psychology books reader junkie. I read/listen to the good the bad and the ugly from: the flow, codependet no more, the 7 habits of successful people, Freud, Deepak Chopra, Anthony Robbins, Christopher Howard, the 80/20 principle, positive thinking, cognitive therapy, learned optimism, the secret and its variations, the art of war, how to win friends and influence people, feel the fear and do it anyway and many other countless books. What really strikes me first with psychology books and self help books is that you feel the guilt, that it is your fault you are not good enough or work hard enough or smart enough to achieve, you can’t recognise an opportunity and run with it or network the right way with the right people to advance your career. Well let me tell you, I have also happened to be interested in reading about sociology the individual living in and within the larger society...
